Welcome to Rose Cottage, in the hamlet of Loweswater, in the heart of the English Lake District. We hope these few photos will give you a taste of its delights, and also give you an idea of what is available should you wish to stay.
The cottage has a long and varied history. It was used as the original school house until the school itself was built at the top of the village, then it was home to various people including the local blacksmith who worked in the old Smithy opposite (now demolished). His daughters lived on in the house for many years and are remembered by today's 'older generation' for selling sweets from the cottage.
Despite being modernised several years back, the Cottage has retained many of its original features. It has two oak beamed bedrooms and a central lounge but now has all the latest conveniences for your stay including a modern bathroom plus an up-to-date kitchen which are found to the rear of the property. Free wi-fi for your use is now provided. The kitchen has a fridge, cooker, ceramic hob, microwave and a dishwasher. A small free standing freezer can be found in the outhouse. [ Rose Cottage facilities include a basic supply of cleaning materials and kitchen roll, etc. ] It has full set of dining and kitchen cutlery, plus saucepans and utensils for self catering.
Accommodation comprises of two separate, twin bedded rooms . . . in both cases the beds can be pushed together to form large doubles if required. Please bring your own double or king size quilt if you prefer that to two single quilts on the combined bed. A travel cot for new-born's is available on request (again please bring your own linen for the cot). It has central heating via storage heaters, plus a log burning stove. The back-boiler of the stove heats radiators in all the secondary rooms. The fireplace burns logs and these are provided at no extra charge.
- - - o o o - - - Loweswater is the home to the famous Kirkstile Inn, which serves excellent food and a selection of good local beers. The Pub and the C.of E. Church are both about 150 yards along the lane from Rose Cottage. We are four miles from the Lorton village shop, and eight from the town of Cockermouth where there are a full range of shops and supermarkets.
The cottage and gardens do have several delightful visitors. ( You may wish to bring some bird food or squirrel nuts with you if you have room in the car).

The three lakes of Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater are all within a few minutes drive but the area is also blessed with numerous public footpaths giving access to the lakes and the local fells. If you wish, it is quite possible to enjoy a week here without using your car at all !
We are a very dog friendly cottage and welcome the canine members of your family to our cottage. They can also have complete run of our fully enclosed garden.
