Just back from our driving holiday and we're off south again, this time for the family wedding of my eldest grandson.

Jack and Catherine have been together for some time and have bought a house close to their medical work in Birmingham,

so it's off to Edgbaston for two nights to celebrate the wedding in classic style.

Relaxing the first evening . . . getting into the mood for the weekend.

The dogs are on their holiday, staying with Sophie and Chris plus their retriever friend Bracken, back in Lamplugh, Cumbria.

The grand Highfied House . . . a fine old house now seeing a new life re-purposed as a hotel.

Midday on Saturday we all gathered

at Catherine's local St Edward's Roman Catholic Church

close to where her parents live.

It was a large, ornate and very impressive place.

The service I believe, was taken by Father Dennis,

a wonderfully Irish Priest,

old school but with a great sense of humour.

'Mother of the Groom', my daughter Cathy, with her partner Mark.

This is number two daughter, Paula and her husband Al.

Back to the Church . . . and my son Gareth with Rhian his wife and ourselves.

My youngest, Jen, with her partner Matt and my grandchild (number ten), young Sophie.

Also there were all Jack and Catherine's many family and friends, represented in this photo by Pat.

A full and delightful Catholic service . . .
. . .then it was time for the happy couple to 'walk down the isle' together.

The Kiss . . . outside with the Best Man, bridesmaids and Groomsmen looking on.
The Cheers . . . with a shower of flower petals.

The Happy Couple . . .
. . . complete with vintage transport ready to take them to the reception.

Safely in . . . Jack and Catherine have started celebrating already !

The rest of us have to wait till we reach the Edgbaston Golf Club.

A beautiful setting for a reception and also glorious weather to be outside.

We were entertained by a string quartet,

their music sheets courtesy of their iPads plus a foot button to turn the pages.

We were also treated to the many trays of delightful canapé . . . perhaps I look a little over-enthusiastic in this one !

[ additional photos like this were courtesy of family and friends . . . I've lost track of who took what.]

Baby Sophie was in high demand.
Matt, Rhiannon and Alexander all want a turn at holding her.
Abi also had loving eyes for her cousin.

Full marks to Sophie for staying asleep during most of the proceedings, especially here at the reception.

Time for a formal photo before we adjourn for lunch.

The photo includes Catherine's sister Olivia, Winnie and Patrick Catherine's parents and their family.

The Bride and Groom are welcomed into the reception.

Dinner was served

and speeches were being read through one last time

before the main proceedings started.

Jack then stood to extol the virtues of his new wife,

and thanked everyone for helping them celebrate this happy day.

Best Man Toby responded appropriately

and the festivities continued . . .

As the main course was being cleared away one of the waitresses was handed the microphone.

They had hired a professional singer who doubled up as an additional waitress at the start of the meal.

The music started and soon the whole room was singing and dancing.

After the next course, our 'Singing Waitress' returned, dressed as Dolly Parton . . .
. . . and kept the atmosphere going, including a duet with George, one of the guests.

Her performance was a total surprise, thoroughly professional and a great way to boost the occasion.

Did I say that everyone enjoyed it ?

These youngsters didn't know what to do with their ties . . . or perhaps they did.

This was Kate (Catherine's cousin) , Matt and Sam (two of Jack's brothers).

Mark (Groomsman) and Alexander, the other brother didn't want to be left out either.

I even lost my tie at one point . . . rather deeply coveted by Catherine's mum Winnie . . . the name of the bear was perhaps the reason,

or maybe she'd never seen such a classy tie for a wedding before.

The photo Booth was popular with everyone including my daughters.
Jenna, Rhian, Cathy and Paula can take home an extra memory of the day.

The adjacent room was set out for dancing, and featured a live band . . .
Jack and Catherine having the first dance.

And so it continued into the evening . . . and the night !
