Spring has officially sprung . . . as the hedgerows and road
verges start to grow colour.
These are Primulas on the road down to Maggie's Bridge.
Likewise purple violets a little further up the road.

Cowslips

the lanes. |
Jack o'the Hedge and
classic nettles. |

Spring here in Loweswater means plenty of lambs.
Some like these are relatively newborn,
others who were born earlier, indoors
or in warmer parts of the valley, are already larger.

A Swaledale Mum suckles her lamb . . .
I had the telephoto on for this shot.
This youngster with more black on its head .
. . watch me as I pass with the dogs.

Abi and Emilia's holiday in the Lakes is drawing
to a close
but not as quickly as the sunshine of the last few
days.
Nothing daunted however, what's a bit of low cloud
and a gentle breeze when you've got the right
clothing.
Abi and I persuaded Em to attempt the North Face
of the Eiger,
I mean the north face of Mellbreak,
after all she's been admiring it from the cottage
since she arrived.
The starting point was of course, the red phone box
but photos will be few today
due to the poor weather as much as anything.

Loweswater farms have baby calves . . . as well
as baby lambs !
These were probably been born indoors a few
weeks ago, only coming out recently when the fine weather has
dried the ground.

After a
steady climb, with just a little encouragement along
the way . . . |
. . . the girls reach
the northern summit of the fell. |

We stop
off at Tom's Pool (Tom is Abi's brother) . . . |
. . . and again at another
watering hole at the end of the walk. |
[ For the significance of Tom's Pool check
out the link at the bottom of the page ]
Abi's selfie records the satisfaction of climbing
the fifth Wainwright Fell in three days.

On their last day we just had the morning spare,
so stayed low for our walk.
The outing was probably longer than yesterday,
but with less climbing to get to the "Matterhorn Rock"
it didn't take so long overall.
A slight delay while I had my photo taken.

From the pinnacle rock
which sits below the southern end of Low Fell
we contoured round, crossing Crabtree Beck,
to reach the path that traverses under Darling Fell.
On the quarry track leading to the old Mosser Road
someone has laid out a heart made with local stone
from the adjacent quarry.
We added a few more pieces to complete the gaps
and took a photo before we left.

Time to head back (on the road) for lunch
at home and then a trip to Penrith Station, to sort out what
trains were running today.
The final leg to Doncaster had been cancelled,
so it's slightly longer car journey for Emilia's dad to pick
them up from Sheffield instead.
Still, they phoned me later to say they were
safely home in time for supper . . . after a their four night
stay in the Lakes.
