The opportunity of an afternoon walk found us parking behind Bassenthwaite Village, at the foot of Binsey Fell. After the recent snow we had quite a bit of warm sunshine which has melted the colour from many south facing slopes. Skiddaw today was looking almost back to normal, especially lower down. A wider panorama shows the blue skies over Skiddaw but more cloud out to the west. Hopefully the sun is still high enough to allow us to complete this shorter walk in the light. On the summit of Skiddaw it looked decidedly cold, and the cooler temperatures up high had protected some of the snow. It must have been very cold for the para gliders who were floating even higher above the fells, especially when one considers the effect of wind chill !! Through the gap, and beyond Dash Falls, the back slopes of Blencathra looks quite white. Just a few gullies on the fell side disturb the winter blanket effect. Not late, just an early sunset at this time of year ~ Binsey Trig Point looking west. - - - o o o - - - Following the snows on the high fells, we seem to be entering a colder period of winter weather, with early mornings frosts and fine weather. Morning sunrise colours from the garden The silhouetted skyline is Rannerdale Knotts, Green Gable, Great Gable and the slopes of Mellbreak. To the left, the peak of Grasmoor over the frosty garden and meadows. To the right, the beautiful colour in the sky extends round behind Mellbreak and Hen Comb. The colour was changing by the minute, turning from pink to yellow in no time at all. It's a pity I have to go to work today !
