Date : The 29th of May 2005

Location : Grike and the Western Fells

Occasion : A walk up Grike and Crag Fell in Ennerdale, Cumbria, Uk.

Walk details : 4.2 miles 1670 ft of ascent

Weather : Beautifully sunny, a slight breeze.

A week later the weather was beautiful again and Ann, Crispin (nephew) and Hilton ( friend)

took advantage of the fine Bank Holiday weather and travelled to Ennerdale to escape the crowds.

Leaving a crowded car park behind we headed away from the lake,

up through the forestry and out onto the steep side of Grike Fell.

Brother and sister looking more and more alike as they grow.

Harry is now seventeen months old, Bethan is just seven months.

The first summit - Grike Fell

Crispin, Ann and the third dog - a chocolate lab - Cassie

Hilton's four lunchtime companions, the Dalmatian Suzie being his dog.

( Don't worry there are no more dogs to add after this one.)

Crag Fell was reached by walking the ridge eastward alongside the fence. From there we dropped down towards the Pinnacles on the side of Crag Fell.

In the photo, the top end of Ennerdale Water with the High Stile Ridge to the left, Pillar and Steeple to the right, and Haystacks and Brandreth in the far distance.

Dropping rapidly down to Anglers Crag we had a fine view back

of the Pinnacles silhouetted against the rich blue sky.

Anglers Crag and time for a photo.

The lower end of Ennerdale Water and the summit of Knock Murton behind.

Bowness Knott, and the high ground of Herdus and Great Borne dominate the far side of the Lake.

Despite the Bank Holiday we had only seen two people on the tops plus another here on Anglers Crag.

Not exactly crowded !

Back to Lake level and a view of Anglers Crag and the weir

Recent rains mean the water level is full and the weir was looking delightful.

Returning to the car

Four tired dogs - having run round in each other's circles all day.

Technical note: Pictures taken mainly by Ann with a Canon IXUS 400 Digital camera.

Resized in Photoshop, and built up on a Dreamweaver web builder.
