The major snow had finally arrived in the north western Lake District after everyone else in the country has had more than their fair share.

The last few days we've been looking at snowploughs on international airports and gritters on the motorways.

Today we awoke to a couple of inches of the white stuff, changing the whole valley scenery "overnight" you could say.

The red phone box . . . start of a local walk this afternoon.

The Negative Signpost . . . no way to anywhere . . .
. . . but there is a road to Kirkgate Farm over Church Bridge.

A large dollop of colour from a spreader attachment at the farm . . . the rest is mainly black and white.

The sheep have eaten all of the farmer's overnight hay and go off to scrape at the snow-covered grass.

The fell gate under Mellbreak.

Ahead is Hen Comb . . . blending in with the sky.
Harry's Pool . . . no swim today !

Flass Woods living up to their name . . . white.
At the corner of the bridleway in adjacent Green Wood.

Looking across the valley to Crummock Water, Whiteside and Grasmoor.

The cage in the foreground has been erected to protect new saplings from the sheep.

Locals . . . searching for those unprotected leaves of Green Wood.

Another cheerful dash of red on Low Park front door . . . the crags behind are the northern end of Mellbreak.

It's a shorter walk today so we head back up the road to the negative signpost . . . it must lead somewhere !

Perhaps to the welcoming lights of the pub . . .

I was to be there tonight but the speaker at the "Farmer's" meeting has had to cancel due to the weather.

Back home . . . looking across to that fell with the topical name today . . . Whiteside !

STOP PRESS :        . . . .  a few shots from this morning       . . . what to do on a snowy day when the fells look extremely out of bounds . . .

Stay indoors, look out of a window and reflect on the weather . . .
. . . in a local swimming pool . . . yes !

Coloured lights . . . warm water . . .  gentle music . . . the pool to ourselves . . . what could be better ?

Mmmm . . . still looks cold out there !
