The River Don at Spotborough near Doncaster

There was a bit of a family get together planned for Saturday at our daughter Paula's house, so we decided to join them for the day.

We had decided to surprise our son who was travelling up by train . . . by collecting him from the station ourselves.

We made good time down the A1 and arrived early so had time to fit in a dog walk before the train was due.

This is the River Don near Doncaster, which at this point is navigable by reasonable size boats.

The A1 flyover that we had just crossed can be seen in the distance.

Spotborough has a weir and canal lock system to allow boats to pass up and down the river.

Across on the other bank was an old, rather rusty looking barge, the Maureen May I think.

In front of it a much better looking boat fitted out for pleasure cruising the river. Anyone fancy an afternoon out ?

A few photos from our day - a game of Mousetrap - Gareth reads the rules.

Thomas gets to flush the toilet and roll the ball bearing inside.

" If you get caught there when the ball rolls then you lose a cheese ! "

Abi and a sock moment.
She is now three and quite a young lady.

Paula and Abi . . . our daughter and grand-daughter.

Sorry, Al didn't manage to land in front of the camera this time !!
